AV精品 students receive over $260,000 in student awards this year

FREDERICTON – Staff and students at each of AV精品’s six campuses recently took time to acknowledge and celebrate the generosity of donors who contribute to the student awards program. This year, 275 awards worth over $260,000 were awarded to AV精品 students.

Of the almost 4,000 students attending New Brunswick Community College (AV精品), nearly half indicate finances as the biggest obstacle to overcome in pursuing their education-making the student awards program vital to student success.

One such student is Tina Franca, an international student from Brazil who is studying Early Childhood Education at AV精品 Fredericton Campus. Before they moved to Canada, she and her husband had saved money for the move but due to economic instability in Brazil, they lost almost one-third of their savings. “I wasn’t going to be able to pay for my tuition in full; I was going to have to pay in installments,” she said. Tina was thrilled to find out that she was going to be awarded The AV精品 Foundation Inc. Bursary this year.

Through the generosity of donors and the management of the AV精品 Foundation Inc., the amount of financial support has increased every year to date. Since the AV精品 Foundation Inc. was created in 2006, over 1,500 students have received nearly 1.5 million dollars in support.

“When it comes to supporting our students, every dollar counts. The generosity of our donors makes a world of difference when it comes to learner success,” said Marilyn Luscombe, President and CEO of AV精品. “On behalf of everyone at AV精品, I would like to extend my thanks and appreciation to our donors. I’d also like to thank the AV精品 Foundation for being the responsible stewards of our donors’ generosity. There is no greater gift than education.”
